About the Role
Our client is seeking a strong Senior Insurance Accountant with expertise in both STAT and GAAP accounting. This role focuses on Accident & Health Insurance (A&H), regulated by the NAIC, and involves preparing quarterly, annual, and month-end financial statements.
Key Responsibilities
- Compile and analyze financial information to prepare entries to general ledger accounts.
- Record earned, assumed, and ceded premiums accurately on financial statements.
- Prepare NAIC quarterly and annual filings.
- Prepare reinsurance settlement statements.
- Calculate and file quarterly premium taxes across multiple states.
- Perform variance and ratio analysis; present findings to management.
- Conduct detailed reconciliations for cash and intercompany loan accounts.
- Perform bank reconciliations and set up ACH for expenditures.
- Prepare balance sheets, profit & loss statements, and other reports to summarize financial position.
- Audit contracts, orders, and vouchers; substantiate transactions.
- Monitor compliance with GAAP, SAP, and company procedures.
- Investigate and correct errors in financial entries and reports.
- Implement and improve accounting systems and controls.
- Design and maintain pro formas for contracts to assess pricing and profitability.
- Recommend improvements to accounting operations and processes.
- Prepare federal, state, and local reports and tax returns.
Qualifications
- Minimum 4 years of accounting experience.
- At least 2 years in the insurance industry.
- At least 2 years of statutory accounting experience.
- At least 4 years of GAAP accounting experience.
- Bachelor of Science in Accounting required.
- LOMA or other insurance industry designation preferred.

Technical Skills
- Advanced Excel proficiency required.
- QuickBooks experience preferred.

- Occasional bending, reaching, kneeling, and lifting to 30 pounds.
